Langhe and Roero are names that evoke images of cordiality and well being. They are small ancient provinces where the traditions have been kept alive. It’s the birthplace of the Slow Food Movement, as well as the famous truffle and French influenced cuisine. It is the home to the world renowned red Italian wines such as Barolo, Barbaresco, Nebbiolo and Dolcetto. This has made it a favourite for tourists the world over interested in fine foods and wines.
This region within a region covers a fairly large and roughly triangular swath of rolling vineyard country around the town of Alba. Alba has traditionally acted as a gate to the Langhe mountains and a passage to Liguria. In fact the area was inhabited by Ligurians who invaded the area five centuries before Christ.
During the end of April, Alba holds a famous wine festival “Vinum”. It is a great way to experience the area of Alba and the splendid hills surrounding it.
Besides the selection of the best Italian wines on the market, the event offers important wine tasting of main and well known Italian native wines, culinary experiences with stellar chefs from Piemonte (Il Festival della Cucina), and tours of the Wine Cellars in Alba, open just for the Vinum wine tourists (Le Cantine Aperte di Vinum).

Small villages dot the hills of the Langhe and Roero area, with the artistic heritage of the smaller and larger towns of this territory including castles, historic villas, palaces and religious buildings.
Autumn is the best time to visit Alba, packed with events, markets, exhibitions, concerts and folklore and most of all , the world famous Truffle Festival (Tartufo Bianco d’Alba ) . During the fair dedicated to this precious tuber, there is also a running of a donkey race, the Palio degli Asini.
Barolo is a splendid town with medieval origins, surrounded by the hills of the Langhe, and is one of the eleven communities where the grapes from the “Nebbiolo” vines, used for producing Barolo wine, can be cultivated.
